Summer activities in Marianske – Lazne

Passing through Mariánské Lázně gives you the feeling that you are living a century ago in the heart of a fairytale. Blossoming parks alternate with magnificent spa buildings in which spa guests enjoy drinking the healing water from some of the town’s famous springs.

Mariánské Lázně remains one of Europe’s most beautiful spa towns and ensures that its visitors always enjoy their time here. The town’s unique history as part of its cultural heritage in addition with its many festivals and events that occur each year will leave the visitor with a sense of fullness. Exhibitions, concerts, theatre performances, dance parties and lots of other cultural activities are part of the daily life.

The annual Chopin Festival along with other summer cultural exhibitions have their origins back to the beginning of the 20th century. Every year, visitors look forward to the Opening of the Spa Season celebrations, the Cultural Summer of Mariánské Lázně, Jazz Spa and of course the town’s youngest annual event the international Marienbad Film Festival.

Summer in Mariánské Lázně gives you great opportunities accounting the weather to see miniature replications from all over the Czech Republic –palaces, castles, observation points and engineering landmarks. Of course, you shouldn’t miss the square Goethovo náměstí in Mariánské Lázně which is a place of relaxation and love trysts. The modified square, named after probably its most famous guest, together with the central colonnade forms the heart of the city.

Summer is a very beautiful and busy season here in Marianske Lazne. It is the time when the Marianske Lazne Cultural Summer festival takes place. Town residents along with visitors and tourists  get to see many unique performances that take place only this time of the year and would not be in the normal course of musical and theatre performances during the rest of the year.

The Municipal Theatre and the courtyard of the Chopin House in the so-called “Evening Under the Lamp” hold the programs of the summer events. In case of inclement weather, the program takes place into the House of Chopin’s Music Hall.
Also during the Marianske Lazne Cultural Summer, there is a form of summer open – air theatre performances called the traditional “Pocket full of fairy tales.” Different theatre groups take turns to perform on this stage, during the course of two week and the theatrical performances are designed for children 4 to 12 years, but older viewers can come too. For those interested in participating and learning Summer Theatre Workshop runs concurrently with “Pocket-full of fairy tales” and is designed for children from 6-13 years.

In addition with the above for those of you who are fan of the outdoor sports the Royal Golf Club Mariánské Lázně gives you the opportunity of the experience of a lifetime. The golf course complex, spread over 60 hectares, is partly situated in orchards. Its location 787 meters above sea level, beautiful natural landscape with full grown trees the flat terrain with 18 holes as well as the historical club house recreate the spirit of old Scottish and Irish courses. It is the oldest course in the Czech Republic and was opened by King Edward VII on 21st August 1905. In 2003 HRH Elisabeth II granted the golf club the right to use the title “Royal”. You definitely want to get a taste of this!
